art research writing
Polly is a practicing artist and her work is held in collections across Europe, USA and UK.
Her work falls into two categories - landscape painting, and experimental abstraction.
LANDSCAPE PAINTING
"My work is about being in nature - its changing colours and moods, the fleeting passage of clouds, observing the shifts in weather. The Spanish landscape invites a saturated palette, but even in a grim English winter I seem to find colour within the grey."
ABSRACT EXPRESSIONISM
Polly's large abstract paintings have been influenced by her previous career as an Art Psychotherapist.
"I am interested in the body's power to communicate without words. This was never as palpable as in the consulting room, where breath, energy and minute gestures are responded to wordlessly."
Using the movement of her body to make marks creates abstract image which communicate the experience of being alive.
WRITING AND RESEARCH
Polly is the leading expert on the history and legacy of Ferguson's Gang, a secret group of women who promoted rural conservation in the early part of the twentieth century. Polly's grandfather, nicknamed 'The Artichoke' was the Gang's architect, and Polly grew up at Shalford Mill, Surrey, the first property the Gang saved from demolition.
